20140313_110949Sometimes we identify ourselves with people in our lives, we often define ourselves according to the way people define us, we tend to also define ourselves based on our jobs, the kind of cars we drive, our social circle( fraternity, social clubs). This list could go on and on.

While there is nothing wrong with driving the latest flamboyant cars in town or having the best job you dreamed of, we also need to understand that who we are is not based on material things,  it is important to associate ourselves with something meaningful .

What do I mean by that? Have you noticed that  what you think at the time is the latest iPhone in another 3 months, there is another iPhone rendering your then-latest phone irrelevant? Or the moment you try to fit into a particular trend, there comes another new trend?

Material things are temporary, they always come and go.

You may be thinking how do associate myself with something meaningful? Here is one useful  tip:

Build your character: People can take your job, your car or even your friends can decide one day to walk out of your live, but your character cannot be taken away from you.

I will leave you with one of my favorite quote: Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing – Abraham Lincoln
