We’ve all been given choices in life, and when you have choices, you have to make a decision. While some decisions are small, like deciding what outfit to wear, others are big ones like deciding what job or career path to follow. Making a decision, especially life changing ones could be very nerve-racking. Sometimes you make bad ones, and if you are lucky there are ways to fix them, but sometimes there aren’t ways to fix them.
Nervousness isn’t fun, but the earlier you understand how to deal with it the better.
In today’s post, you will learn simple tips on how to curb your nervousness before you make the next BIG decision !!
1. Follow your intuition: Sometimes, following your intuition is not always easy, but just like everything else you can always train yourself to get in the habit. Click to read my post on following your intuition.
2. Accept the risks and uncertainty: Think about it, you get really nervous because you are uncertain about the outcome of your decision. The uncertainty is the reason why your mind thinks about all the possible outcomes and most cases they are really the negative ones. With the uncertainty game playing in your head, it is impossible not to get nervous. But you can reduce your anxiety level by accepting this: In life, you are going to face uncertainties to a certain level. You have to learn to accept them.
3. Relax and think about it: Have you noticed that when you make decisions hastily, most times it comes back to hurt you? The reason this happens is because you did not take out time to think about it . Decisions made from a calmer perspective can be more favorable. You might be wondering, how do I calm myself/mind? I recommend you try meditating !!! If you are like me who cannot be still for more than 2 minutes (else I will go insane) meditating will help you to be calm. In your calmness, your thoughts become clear and then you can decide what you really want to do.
4. Preparation: Sometimes we get really nervous because we haven’t prepared. For instance you may have a an exam the next day and you have not prepared for it, there is every tendency to be nervous because you know that you are unprepared. The more the preparation the less the nervousness. Take some time to prepare.
Making a choice without thinking about it can result in disaster. Give it a little time. It can take hours, days, or even weeks to make a choice. But it’s all worth it.
